In 2002, the Ukrainian Institute for Plant Variety Examination was established through the reorganization of the State Centre for Certification, Identification and Quality of Plant Varieties of the State Commission for Testing and Plant Variety Protection of the Ministry of Agriculture (Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated 01.06.2002 No. 714 "On the Establishment of the State Service for the Plant Variety Protection and the Ukrainian Institute for Plant Variety Examination"). As a part of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, on the basis of the State Commission for Testing and Plant Variety Protection, the State Service on Right Protection for Plant Varieties was created as a government body. The State Service on Right Protection for Plant Varieties are subordinated the UIPVE and plant variety test stations.
Since 2004, the Ukrainian Institute for Plant Variety Examination of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine has been included in the State Register of State-supported Scientific іinstitutions.
